Apple's Power Macintosh series, which, as its name suggests, use PowerPC processors, succeeded the earlier Motorola 680x0 CPU-based Macintosh models in 1994 with the Power Mac 6100 series. Most Power Macs used Open Firmware for booting, with the exception of the aforementioned 6100 series.
