I created the Chat page just as a test to see how well it worked. Should I keep the page, move it to another namespace, or move it outside the wiki all together? -Chase 08:38, 16 May 2007 (CDT)

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Java applets, Can't this page just list OSDev related IRC(Or others..) chatrooms and make recommendations for IRC clients? --Brynet-Inc 14:07, 18 May 2007 (CDT)

I agree with Brynet-Inc. It should be changed to a page with a list of places to go. Yayyak 02:06, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

On the migration from Freenode

The #osdev channel formerly on Freenode has moved to Libera in response to recent events. The decision to move was unanimous among the staff of the channel and (only a few days later) user numbers are at a significant percentage of what we had on Freenode - understandably, some idlers were lost in the shuffle. In moving to Libera, a discussion was held on the relationship between #osdev and osdev.org. While it was fully recognized that there was no official relationship between the two while the channel was on Freenode, in consideration for the overlap in staff and in the interest of maintaining a viable claim as a "project" channel under the policies Libera inherited from Freenode, we have made the decision to found the new channel jointly between the wiki/forum and the former Freenode channel. While not necessarily an enthusiastic decision, the staff were all in agreement and the sentiment from general members was positive. Personally, I am glad to see twenty years of will-they-won't-they finally resolved, and this will lead to far less confusion or pronoun juggling when discussing the wiki in conversations on IRC ;)

@chase: You, of course, still have right-of-refusal to the joint operation of the channel, and it is unfortunate that the rapidity with which these events unfolded made it difficult to get all parties on board. Regardless, we should probably change the profile entry on the forum for freenode usernames, as I suspect it will cause confusion regardless moving forward.
