Hey I'm cb88 I'm a computer engineering student in my senior year (2010-2011) and Sparc hardware is becoming my hobby.
My current goal is to build a bootable CD image with buildroot and possibly write a small OS in C and assembly for mental exercise. Buildroot was chosen because I can build a toolchain with it that qemu can execute and the Leon Sparc developers also intend to support buildroot for commercial purposes. My other options were T2 SDE with lots of packages, Gentoo which IMO isn't ideal, and buildroot which uses uClibc exclusively.
I have 1 and a half SparcStation 2s, 1 SparcStation 10 and a loaner aswell, 1 SparcStation 5 and an Ultra 1.
Specwise they are as follows
Sparcstation 2 #1 80Mhz 64mb ram .5 GB drive Sparcstation 2 #2 40Mhz mostly for parts SparcStation 5 70Mhz 144Mb ram running NetBSD currently SparcStation 10 various modules from 40-60Mhz and dual 2Gb drives Ultra 1 167Mhz probably the fastest it curretly has red hat 5.2 and KDE 1 :-)
If you have any sparc parts you think I would be interested in PM me on the forum and I'll see if I can help you will that ;-).
I'm looking specifically for a Fujitsu AG-10E framebuffer (huge beast of an sbus card) for my SS10. Also faster Ethernet cards would be nice for the most part I'm stuck at 10Mbs for now. I am interested in the external GT Tower I know its buggy and slow but for historical reasons its interesting. I could also use an SS20 + quad cpus once I get a native toolchain working if you need someone to take care of your baby and your wife is about to kill you if you don't ditch it!
Do any Ross HyperStations still exist in the US?
Any info on Sparc hardware is also of interest to me I plan on hosting alot of the documentation myself since many websites seem to be dying off at the moment.
